May 5, 2023Automatic Metal Deburring: quality repeatability and efficiency, but not only that
Deburring is a machining process that involves the removal of burrs, that is, small imperfections or protrusions of excess material as a result of machining or metal cutting. The purpose of the deburring process is therefore to make the workpiece clean along all contours.
Technological advances that have led to the development of fiber laser cutting technology make manual deburring of sheet metal a sometimes difficult and risky task for the operator. In fact, thanks to laser cutting, increasingly complicated parts are created with areas that can be difficult to deburr manually.
Automatic metal deburring machines use abrasive belts to remove excess material (cutting burrs). Automatic deburring ensures a uniform, high-quality repeatable finish on machined parts, and is ideal for presenting final parts with more care, especially in industries of excellence, such as food or pharmaceuticals, where it is necessary to make each product smooth and free of imperfections.
What are the advantages over Manual Deburring?
The purpose of an automatic metal deburring machine is to maximize, speed up and simplify the machining process. But it also has other advantages over manual deburring:
- Wellness for employees and technicians, who are no longer subject to stress and fatigue from using hand tools, as well as exposure to dust and fumes
- Optimization of time and productivity, as automatic machines can work on a large number of parts in a much shorter time than manual deburring
- Standardized quality, with repeatable final outputs of perfectly finished parts without further processing
All these advantages translate into one major goal: to increase competitiveness in the market.
The automatic deburring machines Mercury and Rotoflex
In addition to the classic deburring machine in the line Mercury, which can be configured up to 3 internal units (roller unit, disc unit and brush unit) and is available with useful working widths of 650, 1,100 or 1,350 mm, EMC Italia has also developed new working technologies by creating the Rotoflex line (with working widths of 650, 1,350 or 1,650 mm). This new machine was created to meet the demand for large radii (Radius 2 and more), i.e., rounding the edges of workpieces but, thanks to its high dynamism and flexibility, with the different configurations it perfectly performs the deburring phase, as well as a final satin finish.
Repeatable quality and cost reduction
EMC Italia 's automatic deburring machines ensure repeatable product quality, as the machine is able to perform the same operation precisely and consistently on each machined part. This means that the finish of the parts will be uniform and of high quality, regardless of the operator who performed the deburring, with a standard state of the art repeated with each machining cycle.
Machines such as the Rotoflex or the Mercury, due to their different configurations and high level of engineering, can be programmed to work on a variety of product types to suit different production requirements, speeding up and increasing the overall efficiency of the machining process, resulting in cost savings.
